Fencing Rings in New Year with Dave Micahnik Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania fencing programs ring in 2026 this weekend, hosting the Dave Micahnik Penn Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17, through Sunday, Jan. 18.

The Field
Cornell, FDU, Haverford, Lafayette, NJIT, NYU, Ohio State, Sacred Heart, Temple, UC San Diego, Wagner, and Yale will join the Quakers in University City.

*The United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) released its mid-season ranking, with the Quaker men earning #7 and the women landing #8.
 
*Penn closed out 2025 competing at the Elite Invitational hosted by Ohio State, with the women going 3-5 while the men went 6-2.
 
*The men carry a five-win streak into this weekend's competition; the epee and saber athletes lead the charge currently holding 7-1 records in battles.
 
*On the women's side, the epee athletes lead the charge with a 6-2 overall record through matches.
