Field Hockey Takes on No. 9 Princeton, Drexel in Ivy League and Home Openers

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team will take on their first Ivy League opponent of the season in No. 9 Princeton on Friday at 5 p.m.The Red and Blue will then travel back home to Philadelphia to take on Drexel in their home opener on Sunday at noon at Ellen Vagelos Field.

Penn vs No. 9 Princeton
The Quakers are 15-32-3 all-time versus the Tigers, with the last win taking place in a double overtime victory at Bedford Field in 2023. Princeton enters the game having beaten Rutgers, 1-0, in overtime on Sunday after falling to Syracuse on Friday. Similarly to Penn, Princeton also lost to North Carolina and beat Old Dominion in their first two games of the year. Penn will also be Princeton's first Ivy League matchup of the season.
 
Penn vs Drexel
The Quakers and the Dragons will meet for the 22nd time in program history. Penn leads the all-time series record 13-8 and are 4-0 against Drexel at Ellen Vagelos Field. However, the Red and Blue lost, 2-1, in the last matchup in 2024. The Dragons will enter the matchup having defeated Rider, 5-0, but losing to Temple 2-0 on Tuesday.  
 
Quaker Notemeal
*The Quakers enter the weekend with a 2-2 record, having lost to Maryland and beaten American last weekend in the Terrapin Invitational.
 
*Penn recorded its first shutout victory of the season against American last week, blacking the Eagles 2-0.
 
*Honor Roberts tallied her second goal of the season to highlight the battle with the Terps this past Friday.
 
*Philine Klas had a strong defensive outing last week, docking two defensive saves at the Terrapin invitational.
 
*Julia Ryan added another goal against American, currently leading the team with three.
 
*Goalie Ruby de Frees has totaled 26 saves so far this season, adding a total of 11 against UMD and AU.
 
Scouting the Tigers
*Princeton has only given up five total goals this season, including their last shutout win against Rutgers.
 
*Junior Ella Cashman and senior Beth Yeager lead the Tigers offense with two goals each, four out of five goals scored by the team this season.
 
Scouting the Dragons
*Besides exploding for five goals against Rider on Friday, Drexel's offense has mostly struggled this season. The Dragons have been shut out three times so far, by Lafayette, Indiana and Temple.
 
*Junior Pili Lemoine leads the offense with two goals scored. Six other players have scored one goal this season.
