CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew program finished tenth at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships, which concluded Sunday on the Cooper River.
Penn scored 179 points across the weekend in earning its second straight top-10 team finish, as all three Eights competed in the Petite Finals for the second straight season under third-year head coach
Al Monte. Washington takes home the Ten Eyck Trophy for team points with 285, ahead of Harvard (279) and Cal (244).

Penn's Third Varsity Eight had the best finish on Sunday, taking third in its Petite Final to finish ninth overall. The Varsity Eight was fourth in its final—missing its pre-race ninth seed by a mere 0.21 seconds—while the Second Varsity Eight fell out of the top 10 by just two-tenths of a second as the day was defined by several great races.

The ninth-seeded Quakers missed meeting their seed by the slimmest of margins, taking fourth place on Sunday by just 0.21 seconds to Stanford. Cal was the race winner, taking the lead in the second 500 and holding it the rest of the way, while Northeastern took second ahead of the Cardinal.

Second Varsity Eights (Petite Final)
Princeton led this race wire-to-wire, while Stanford and Northeastern went neck-and-neck for second and third with the Cardinal nipping the Huskies by 0.15 seconds. Penn held about a one-second lead over Dartmouth for fourth place at the 1500 mark, but the Big Green passed the Quakers in the final 500 and took fourth by exactly two-tenths of a second.

Brown led this race start to finish, holding the fastest time at all four markers. Penn and Dartmouth fought tooth and nail for second place, the Big Green leading the Quakers all the way down the course but never by more than two seconds. Ultimately Dartmouth's margin over Penn was seven-tenths of a second.
