ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew retained both the Madeira Cup and the Wray Trophy over Cornell on Saturday morning, highlighting two days of racing hosted by the Big Red Friday and Saturday on the Cayuga Inlet.
 
Penn won all four races against Cornell on Saturday morning, including a six-second win in the Varsity Eights race for the Madeira Cup. The Second and Third Varsity Eights were both three-second winners while the Fourth Varsity Eight got an open water lead early and never let up on the way to a 17-second victory. Penn has won won both trophies three years in a row; the last time that happened was 1995-99, when the Quakers swept the honors five straight years.
 
"The rivalry between Penn and Cornell runs deep and it led to some great racing today," said Penn's head coach, Al Monte. "We have good momentum right now and I am excited to keep pushing toward Sprints. Hats off to our 4V8, especially—their win today capped off an undefeated regular season! I am excited to see what they can do in Worcester."
