Heavyweights Retain Madeira Cup and Wray Trophy, Then Sweep Holy Cross

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight crew closed weekend racing by winning four of five races over Cornell Saturday morning, then following up with a sweep of four races against Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.

Because of the results from Saturday morning's racing with the Big Red, the Quakers retained both the Madeira Cup for winning the Varsity Eights race and the Wray Trophy for accumulating more points across the top three boats. This marks the first time Penn has won the Madeira Cup two years in a row since 2000 and 2001 and the first time winning the Wray Trophy two years in a row since 1997 and 1998.

Penn closes out the cup season in possession of the Burk Cup, the Blackwell Cup and the Madeira Cup. The last season that happened was 2001.
