PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the first time since 2006, the No. 49 University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team reached the 20-win plateau with its 4-1 victory over Brown on Saturday afternoon.
It marks just the third time in program history (1995) that Quakers have reached this threshold.
The Bears took the doubles point with back-to-back wins at the first and second positions.
Parashar Bharadwaj and
Tal Goodman's match was tied at 6-6 before it was abandoned.
In singles, Penn rallied off four straight wins to secure the match.
Shaurya Bharadwaj started it off with a straight sets victory at No. 4. His doubles partner,
Manfredi Graziani, trailed right behind him with a 6-3, 6-1 win against a ranked opponent.
Matthew Rutter won in two sets at the sixth position, giving him 10 wins on the season from there. After losing a tough tiebreaker in the second set,
Sanjeev Chundu won the third set convincingly to take the match for the Quakers.
Goodman and
Aaron Sandler had each won a set before their matches were abandoned.
