Softball Falls in Game One Against Dartmouth

PHILADELPHIA— The University of Pennsylvania softball team dropped game one of their series against Dartmouth earlier this afternoon, 11-2.

With the result, the Quakers fell to 2-27-1 on the year and 0-13 in Ivy League play.

Final: Dartmouth 11, Penn 2 (after 5 innings)
Pitchers Kelly Zybura and Jensin Hall each pitched two scoreless innings to start the afternoon, making it until the third inning before the first runs scored. In the top of the third, Penn struck first with a groundout from Jade Montgomery to score Megan Huang from third. In the bottom of the inning, Dartmouth's Justice Malone hit a single to score left fielder Alaana Panu and second baseman Faby Serna to take the lead, 2-1. Olivia Schramm continued the offensive for the Big Green, sending a triple down the right field line to bring in Malone for the third run. Marilyn Beauvais later sent a double down the left field line, allowing Schramm to cross the plate for run number four. Georgia Bilski singled up the middle to score Beauvais, tallying Dartmouth's fifth run. By the end of the third inning, the Quakers trailed, 5-1.

In the fourth inning, Ella Utschig responded with a solo shot over the left field fence to cut the lead, 5-2. The Big Green took the dish again in their half of the fourth, Beauvais doubling to left center field to score two more runs. In the fifth, Serna ended the game with a grand slam to add four more for Dartmouth and clear the eight-run threshold. After the fifth inning, the game was called with a final score of 11-2.
