PHILADELPHIA – Now in a tie for first place in the Ivy League standings following five consecutive wins, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team continues its quest for another Ivy title by visiting Cornell in a rematch of last year's Ivy League Tournament championship series at Booth Field.
The Quakers are coming off a three-game series sweep of Princeton at home, their second conference series sweep of the year so far.
Originally set to begin on Saturday, the series was postponed to Sunday-Monday due to inclement weather in Ithaca. Sunday's doubleheader begins at 11:30 a.m. with a single game set for Monday at noon.

We're Streaking… Again!
Penn has been streaky all season long, but have shown its winning side as of late. The Quakers are on a five-game winning streak, their second of five or more games on the year also winning seven in a row March 14-23. Penn has won 12 of its last 15 games.
The season started with seven consecutive losses, but the Quakers are 13-5 since.
Pitcher of the Week
Junior right-hander
Thomas Shurtleff earned Penn's second conference weekly award of the year after he was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Shurtleff appeared in three of the Quakers' four games in the unbeaten week, most notably recording a win and a save in a three-game sweep of the Tigers. He tossed 5.2 innings in three relief appearances, striking out 11 batters with no walks, no runs, and just two hits given up, holding batters to a .118 average.
Against Princeton alone, Shurtleff struck out eight hitters in 4.2 innings, with no runs on one hit and closed out Penn's 16-11 victory over Lafayette on Tuesday, striking out the side. In Game 2 on Friday against Princeton, he shut the door and picked up the five-out save with three strikeouts and just one hit allowed in Penn's 7-5 victory, sealing the series win.
Shurtleff was excellent in the series finale on Saturday, pitching three no-hit and shutout innings, striking out five of the nine batters he faced, including punching out the side swinging in order in the top of the 12th inning.
The Cornell Series
Penn leads the all-time series over Cornell, 167-124-2 in what will be 294th, 295th, and 296th meetings this weekend.
The Big Red claimed the regular-season series between the two teams at Tommy Lasorda Field in 2024, before the Quakers had the last laugh by taking two of three from Cornell in the Ivy League Tournament including games six and seven to win their second consecutive ILT championship and berth into an NCAA regional.
The Quakers are 77-69 in Ithaca after winning twice against the Big Red in 2023.
At The Plate
Jarrett Pokrovsky has been on a tremendous hot streak and is leading the Quakers' hitters heading into the fourth Ivy weekend of the year.
His .364 batting average (36-for-99) ranks first on the team and second in the Ivy League while also hitting .500 (18-for-36) in nine Ivy games, leading the conference in that category as well. Pokrovsky is one of only three players in the Ivy League—along with teammate
Davis Baker—with double-digit doubles, leading the Ancient Eight with 14 so far.
Gavin Collins (.324) and
Ryan Taylor (.302) are also hitting north of .300 so far, while Baker leads the team with six home runs and 22 RBIs.
In the national rankings, Pokrovsky is fourth in NCAA Division I in doubles per game (0.56) and 18th in doubles. Baker's 0.46 doubles per game is good for 18th nationally. Taylor ranks among the top 50 in the nation in triples (3, 46th) and triples per game (0.12, 45th). As a team, Penn is ranked third in doubles per game (2.72) and 50th in doubles (68).
Heading into this weekend, two players have reached-base streaks of 10-or-more games in Collins (12) and
Nick Spaventa (11). Pokrovsky's hitting streak is now at seven consecutive games.
On The Mound
Penn's rotation has been key to the recent five-game win streak as
Noah Millikan (0-2, 7.04 ERA),
Josh Katz (3-2, 8.03) and
Will Tobin (1-1, 6.15) all look to make starts again this weekend in the Empire State.
Millikan is tied for the team lead in strikeouts (34) with
Sebastian Haggard (2-1, 3.86), who has not appeared in a game since March 28 at Dartmouth. Tobin is right behind the pair with 31 punchouts.
Out of the bullpen, Shurtleff (1-2, 0.55) has been mentioned after a stellar start to the campaign. His 0.55 ERA is second in the Ivy League and nation behind Yale freshman Jack Ohman. He's also tied for the conference lead in saves (3).
Marty Coyne (2-1, 5.87) and
Connor Darling (0-1, 6.92) have both made impacts out of the pen as of late.
Scouting The Big Red
Cornell has had an up-and-down start to the season after beginning the 2025 campaign with an 11-8 victory over then-No. 17 Duke in Durham. The Big Red are 5-4 in Ivy play after dropping a three-game series to first-place Columbia in NYC last weekend.
It looked as if Cornell was going to claim the series on Saturday, carrying a 9-8 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning when the Lions scored five runs—the last of which was a walk-off grand slam—to take the 13-9 victory at Satow Stadium.
Cornell is currently in fourth place, a game behind Yale for third and two behind Penn and Columbia for first.
Ryan Porter (.357), Kevin Hager (.333), and Mark Quatrani (.329) have been the leading hitters for the Big Red through their first 20 games of the campaign. Porter is tied for the team lead in home runs (5) with Max Jensen, while John Quinlan has a team-high 19 RBIs. Quinlan is also a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts.
Carson Mayfield (1-1, 3.93 ERA) has had electric stuff on the mound so far, striking out 30 batters in 36.2 innings. Huxley Holcombe (3-0, 8.07) and Sam Keene (1-0, 9.82) have both seen time as starting pitchers, while Chris Ellison (0-4, 10.00) remains a steady option.
As a team, Cornell is one of the nation's best fielding teams with a fielding percentage of .977 which ranks 37th nationally and first among Ancient Eight teams.
