How It Happened
Dartmouth opened the scoring in what turned out to be a frenetic first quarter, but Penn got on the board four minutes later when Provost notched his first off a Hoffman assist. The Quakers went on extra-man shortly after that, and
Tynan Walsh—seeing his first regular time this season on the EMO—scored to give the Red and Blue their first lead. Dartmouth leveled things less than a minute later, then did so again after DiNola's tally (off a Hoffman feed) put Penn in front 3-2 with 4:41 left in the first. The Big Green scored again with just 34 seconds left in the quarter, and took a 4-3 lead after one.
Provost scored unassisted to make it 4-4 early in the second, then finished a Walsh feed on EMO a little more than two minutes after Dartmouth had gone back up. The teams stayed neck and neck right to the halftime break, Hoffman scoring with 2:08 left but Dartmouth equalizing with just 16 seconds left.
The third quarter had plenty of action but no scoring, the teams combining for 15 shots but no goals. They then went nearly nine minutes without a score in the fourth, before Smith slid one home from the left side to give Penn a 7-6 lead.
After going 27:42 of game time without a goal, Dartmouth scored a pair just 47 seconds apart, the first with 2:34 to play and the second with 1:47 left that put the Big Green in front, 8-7. However, the Quakers had one final answer, Rubin rocketing the tying goal home with just 52.5 seconds left. He had another opportunity at the end of regulation that was wide and the teams went to overtime.
Penn won the opening faceoff in the extra session and, after a timeout, got a few looks but couldn't convert. Dartmouth eventually got possession, and Jessey put on the hero's cape with an unassisted goal.
