ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse team not only was facing a Cornell team that was playing its first game as the No. 1 team in the country, it was also facing a team that remembered losing to the Quakers twice last season. Not surprisingly, the Big Red came out blazing Saturday at Schoellkopf Field and used that fast start for a 15-5 victory..
Penn dropped to 1-2 in Ivy League play and 4-6 overall, while Cornell improved to 7-1 overall and remains unbeaten in Ivy play at 3-0.

How It Happened
Cornell needed just 90 seconds to go in front, and the Big Red were up 4-0 after less than nine minutes. Scane finally got Penn on the board with 5:26 left in the first quarter, beating his man on the left side and going five-hole on Cornell goalie Wyatt Knust (12 saves on the day) with a lefty shot. However, that was the Quakers' only goal in the period and their hosts tacked on three more in the final 3:45 to take a 7-1 lead after one.
Cornell scored all the goals in the second quarter and the score was 10-1 at the break, then the Big Red added two more in the first two minutes of the third and it was 12-1.
Provost started what would be a three-goal run with 10:46 left in the third, coming from the right side and shooting across his body. The next goal came with 2:18 remaining when Scane made a nice skip pass left-to-right to a wide-open Walsh who one-timed a shot inside the near post. That made the score 12-3 after three, and then
Ben Beacham made it 12-4 with 10:43 left when Walsh found him at the far post right at the end of the shot clock.
Cornell finally responded, ending a scoreless drought of 18:26 and then tacking on two more around the final media timeout. Walsh made a nice move to get open and finished a feed from Patterson with just 75 seconds left, and that closed things out.
