Klanke Sets School Record at Penn Classic

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field teams hosted the Penn Classic on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Ott Center. 

Senior Edwin Klanke broke the school record in the men's 1000m clocking in a personal-best time of 2:22.63.  

The men's 4x400m relay team of Ryan Matulonis, Nayyir Newash-Campbell, David Davitt, and Nicolas Pizarro broke the school record with a time of 3:11.64, clocking in first. 

Quaker Notemeal
Jumps
Quakers claimed first and second in the women's triple jump, women's long jump, and men's high jump on Saturday.

In the triple jump, Adannia Agbo took over the lead on her sixth attempt of the day jumping a personal-best distance of 12.64m (41' 5.75"). Tumi Onaleye placed second with a mark of 12.54m (41' 1.75"), followed by Ijeoma Eziri in third at 12.07m (39' 7.25"). 

Paris Ivery finished first in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.93m (19' 5.50"). Mikaela Lyri claimed second at 5.84m (19' 2"). 

Junior Kampton Kam won the men's high jump clearing a season-best height of 2.15m (7' 0.5") on his third attempt. Conrad Moore placed second clearing 2.05m (6' 8.75"). 

Pole Vault 
Benedikt Sachta cleared a personal-best height of 5.28m (17' 3.75") in the men's pole vault finishing first. 

Evangeline Thomson and Kai Eisenhardt tied for first in the women's pole vault clearing 3.96m (12' 11. 75"). 

Sprints / Hurdles  
Quakers swept the men's 500m as Ryan Matulonis crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:02.24. Davit Davitt finished second (1:03.35) followed by Benjamin Markham in third (1:03.53). 

Jocelyn Niemiec won the women's race clocking in a time of 1:10.91. 

Shane Gardner placed first in the men's 60m hurdles final clocking in a time of 7.83. Chikaodinaka Akazi claimed second in the women's 60m H with a time of 8.52. 

Christiana Nwachuku crossed first in the 60m dash recording a time of 7.72. Jordyn Reed placed third with a time of 7.74. 

Throws
Angeludi Asaah claimed second in women's shot put recording a mark of 14.61m (47' 11.25"). Kai Deines took third in the men's competition putting 16.26m (53' 4.25"). 

Ella Neskora placed second in the women's weight throw with a mark of 16.30m (53' 5.75"). 

Distance
Nick Carpenter recorded the fifth fastest time in program history crossing the finish line second in the 3000m with a time of 8:06.77. Dylan Throop followed closely behind in the third at 8:07.93. 

Miranda Schriver placed second in the women's 3000m with a personal-best time of 9:26.27. 

Chloe Hassman finished third with a time of 2:45.00 in the women's 1000m, second fastest time in program history. 

Junior Nicolas Pizarro clocked a personal-best time of 1:48.41 in the men's 800m finishing third. 

Up Next 
Penn hits the road to Boston, Mass. and Clemson, S.C. on Feb. 14 – 15. Members of the distance squad will compete at the annual David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Sprints and field events will head to Clemson to compete at the Tiger Paw Invitational.
