How It Happened
Johns Hopkins struck first in the top 15 battle, getting on the board eight minutes into the game, but sophomore Catherine Berkery answered off a free position shot with 7:08 left of the first to tie things up. Both teams were held off the board until the final two minutes of the period, as Brandt dove toward goalkeeper Morgan Giardina to give Penn its first and only lead of the game. With less than a minute left, Campbell Case scored her second of the period for the Blue Jays to tie the battle at two to end the first.

The Blue Jays kept up their pace to open the second, tallying two goals within the first two minutes to lead 4-2 early. At the 12:51 mark of the quarter, senior Paige Lipman slashed the lead for the Red and Blue off a free position shot, but not even a minute later, Johns Hopkins snuck another past Sedransk to lead by two.

With 11:38 left of the half, freshman Kate Stanton accepted a feed from Berkery to net her first collegiate goal to bring the Quakers within one. Unfortunately for Penn, the Blue Jays scored three unanswered goals that stretched to the 5:53 mark of the second to lead 8-4.

The final two minutes of the half were busy, as attacker Erika Chung broke up Johns Hopkins' run with 2:08 left in the period with her third of the year, but the Blue Jays responded right back a min jute later. Senior Brandt tallied her second of the game to end the first half to push the score to 9-6.

Johns Hopkins did not let up during the second half, scoring not even 30 seconds in to lead by four. Senior Lipman responded not even a minute later off her second of the battle, but the Blue Jays netted another to put the game at 11-7 with 12:53 left of the third.

A green card on JHU's Morgan Giardina gave the Red and Blue a player-up advantage that resulted in senior Block setting up Brandt for her first hat trick of the season to cut the lead to three again. Brandt's goal started the Quakers' first run of the game as Penn tallied two more goals on two additional player-up opportunities from Brandt and Gracie Smith to slash the lead to 11-10 to end the third quarter.

The fourth was just as exciting as expected as Brandt nailed her fifth of the day to open the period to tie the bout at 11. Three minutes later, Ashley Mackin grabbed the lead again for JHU, but Brandt rallied with another goal with 7:39 left of regulation to notch the battle at 12.

The Blue Jays tried to shift the momentum in their favor again, going on a two-goal streak to lead 14-12 with 4:41 on the clock. Senior Brandt would not go down quietly, netting the two goals needed within the final two minutes of the fourth to force overtime. Ultimately, Johns Hopkins prevailed in the extra six minutes, as Mackin netted her fourth in the game to give the Blue Jays the 15-14 overtime win.
