Two Under-Par Rounds Has Men's Golf Third at Savannah Intercollegiate

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team is in third place out of 13 teams heading into Sunday's final round at the Savannah Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event is taking place on the par-72 course at The Club at Savannah Harbor.

Penn shot 10-under-par 278 in Saturday's first round and followed that up with another under-round team score in the afternoon (284). That left the Quakers at 14-under-par 562, four shots off the score posted Saturday by team leader Longwood and just one stroke behind USC Beaufort which is currently 16th in the NCAA Division II national rankings. Among the other Ivy League schools in the field, Columbia (569) is right behind Penn in fourth place while Harvard (572) is tied for sixth and Dartmouth (574) is in eighth.
 
Sophomore Max Fonseca was Penn's low scorer on the day and is tied for fourth place in a field of 84 golfers after he shot 66-72 to finish Saturday at 6-under-par 138. Senior Ben Scott is right behind him, carding two under-par round and finishing the day at 5-under-par 139, while Hayden Adams went under par in the afternoon and finished the day tied for 17th at 3-under-par 141.
 
George Roessler shot two even-par rounds, scoring for the Quakers both times and ending the day tied for 28th. Wesley Hu is tied for 65th while Owen Hayes—in the field as an individual—is tied for 75th.
 
Three players are tied at the top of the leaderboard after shooting 8-under-par on Saturday: Erik Rengardt of USC Beaufort (65-71), Longwood's Justin LaRue (67-69), and Colgate's Robbie Herzig (68-68). Fonseca is in a group of four players tied for fourth, two strokes back.

The Savannah Intercollegiate will wrap up with a final round tomorrow; shotgun start is at 8 a.m. and Penn will play with Longwood, USC Beaufort and Columbia.
