GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team is in ninth place after the first day of play at the Wildcat/Fazio Invite. The 12-team, 54-hole event is being hosted by Villanova and taking place on the par-71 course at Galloway National Golf Club.

Penn shot 306 in Monday's first round, then cut seven strokes off that score in the afternoon session. That left the Quakers at 37-over-par 606. Villanova leads the field after Monday's action; the Wildcats finished the day at 16-over-par 584, which has them three strokes ahead of second-place Georgetown (587, +19) and nine ahead of third-place Navy (593, +25).
 
Penn's low score was posted by Ryan Chang, who is in the field as an individual. He shot 72-76 to finish the day at 6-over-par 148, which has him tied for ninth in a field of 72 golfers. From the lineup, Kayden Wang shot 76-73 on Monday to finish at 149 which is tied for 18th while Wesley Hu carded 74-76 for 150 and is tied for 22nd.
 
Hayden Adams (152, +10) and Arjun Caprihan (154, +12) scored in both rounds on Monday for the Quakers, while Max Fonseca rounded out the lineup.
 
Villanova holds the top two spots on the individual leaderboard, as Ryan Palmer finished the day at 2-over-par 144 which had him a stroke ahead of teammate Vibhav Alokam. Navy's Jack Tarzy is third at 146, one stroke behind Alokam.

Penn will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday, competing in the Princeton Invitational in what is the Quakers' last tournament tuneup before the Ivy League Championship later this month.
