PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's swimming and diving team earned a pair of individual wins Friday at the Big Al Invitational. The three-day event concludes Saturday at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
As a team, Penn is third with 653 points, behind host Princeton (1,039.50) and Cornell (794.50).
Peter Whittington was the Quakers' first winner on Friday night, clocking 3:48.42 to win the men's 400 individual medley by a scant 0.24 seconds over Princeton's Arthur Balva. Penn's other win came in the 100 breaststroke, where
Watson Nguyen was first in 52.56 seconds. It was Nguyen's second win of the weekend, as he took first in the 50 breast on Thursday.
Both of Penn's top relay teams were second on Friday, the 200 medley relay clocking 1:26.94 and the 800 free relay group taking second in 6:31.91.
