PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced its weekly awards in men's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania's guard
Michael Zanoni was named the city series Player of the Week.
This is Zanoni's first Big 5 weekly honor as a member of the Quakers; the second-year transfer from Mercer is a senior but still has a season of athletic eligibility remaining.
Zanoni scored a career-high 30 points in Penn's loss at Providence last Tuesday. He shot 10-of-17 from the field overall including a 5-of-8 performance from beyond the arc and was a perfect 5-of-5 at the foul line. The outing gives Zanoni 50 points through two games against Division I opponents this season, after he dropped six treys on the way to 20 points at American on November 9.
Penn (2-1) plays both of its Big 5 pod games this week,
hosting Saint Joseph's tonight at 7 p.m. and making the short road trip down 33rd Street to Drexel on Friday night.
