PHILADELPHIA – Fresh off one of the most memorable seasons in recent program history, the University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team will give fans their first look at the 2026-27 Quakers on Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Quakers host their annual Red and Blue Scrimmage at The Palestra.
The event is scheduled for noon, following the Penn women's basketball scrimmage at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free.
The Red and Blue enter the 2026-27 season looking to build on a historic 2025-26 campaign that saw Penn capture the Ivy League Tournament championship in thrilling fashion and earn the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 2018. The Quakers rallied past top-seeded Yale, 88-84, in overtime in the Ivy League Tournament championship game to secure the league's automatic bid. It marked Penn's 25th NCAA Tournament appearance.
A key piece of that championship squad returns for another season as senior forward TJ Power is back in University City. Power was a unanimous First Team All-Ivy League selection last season after leading Penn in scoring at 16.4 points per game and rebounding at 7.6 per game. He also earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the Ivy League Tournament after an historic 44-point, 14-rebound performance in the championship victory over Yale.
In all, seven of Penn's top nine scorers from last season return, giving the Quakers a strong returning nucleus as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
The 2026-27 season also marks another chapter for John R. Rockwell Head Coach Fran McCaffery, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Tournament in his first season back at his alma mater. Penn will open the regular season on Nov. 5 at Illinois in an NCAA Tournament first-round rematch before returning to The Palestra to host Howard on Nov. 9.
Saturday's Red and Blue Scrimmage will provide Penn fans with their first opportunity to see the defending Ivy League champions in action ahead of the 2026-27 season.
