In the tenth battle of the round robin, Choi tried to rally back in her bout with India Sardjoe of the Netherlands but fell 2(18)-0(0). The New York native bounced back in her third-round battle and the 18th overall, taking down Portugal's breaker Vanessa Marina 2(13)-0(5) to grab her first win and only in Paris.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 4
*Crushing result for Nia Akins Nu'20 GNu'20 in the women's 800 semifinal. She clocked 1:58.20 to finish third in her semi, with the top two (Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson and South Africa's Prudence Sekgodiso) advancing automatically to the final in 1:56.86 and 1:57.57, respectively. Overall, Akins was tenth out of the 24 semifinalists and missed out on a spot in the eight-woman final by a mere .19 seconds. The only American to advance to the final in this event was Juliette Whittaker, the younger sister of recent Penn grad (and fellow Olympian) Bella Whittaker; Juliette was third in her semifinal but clocked the fifth-best time overall (1:57.76).

SATURDAY, AUGUST 3
*Regina Salmons C'18 came up a few lengths short of capturing a medal with the United States' women's Eight, placing fifth with a time of 6:01.73 in Saturday's final. The U.S. finished just a second behind surging Australia (6:00.73) and a little over two seconds behind third-place Great Britain (5:59.51), who took the bronze medal. Team USA held steady next to the British for most of the race before they pulled away in the final 500 meters, while Romania controlled the pace for the entirety of the race to win the gold medal with a time of 5:54.39. Canada took silver with a 5:58.84.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 2
*Rowers Dara Alizadeh C'15 and Isak Zvegelj C'25 completed their journeys at the 2024 Paris Olympics during the men's rowing single sculls finals on Friday morning. Zvegelj represented Slovenia during the D Finals, taking fourth place at 6:59.46, his fastest showing in Paris. THURSDAY, AUGUST 1
FINALS BOUND! Regina Salmons C'18 helped lead the United States' women's rowing Eight to a victory in the repechage round Thursday, clocking in at 6:03.93, just barely a second faster than Canada's eight (6:04.81). Team USA will have a chance at medaling during Saturday's Final A, beginning at 4:10 a.m. Romania and Great Britain are the two nations that advanced following Monday's opening heats, setting times of 6:12.31 and 6:16.20, respectively. Salmons is looking to become Penn's first women's rowing alumna to medal since Susan Francia C'04 won gold in both 2008 and 2012 Olympics with the United States.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 31
*Isak Zvegelj C'25 picked up where he left off on his Olympic quest for Team Slovenia in the men's rowing single sculls semifinals C/D 2, taking the fourth heat at 7:09.41 to forge ahead to the single sculls D Final on Friday morning.

*Fellow rower Dara Alizadeh C'15 will also complete his journey in Paris on Friday during the single sculls E Final after taking the E/F 2 semifinal at a time of 7:33.38 this past Monday.

TUESDAY, JULY 30
*Isak Zvegelj C'25 will continue to compete in Paris after taking fifth place for Team Slovenia in Quarterfinal 3 with a time of 7:06.42. That qualifies him for semifinal C/D on Wednesday. He finished 16.46 seconds behind first place Simon Van Dorp of the Netherlands.

*Wow, that was fast! First through 11th place in the men's 200m breaststroke prelims were separated by just over a second as Team USA's Matthew Fallon W'25 SEAS '25 took second place in his heat and 11th place overall with a time of 2:10.49 to qualify for Tuesday afternoon's semifinal. Fallon was a tenth slower than fellow American Josh Matheny (2:10.39), but just over a second slower than first place Jae-Sung Cho of South Korea (2:09.45). For reference, Fallon swam an American-record time of 2:06.54 at U.S. Olympic Trials in June, which would have smashed Cho's mark by nearly three seconds today.

In the semifinal, Fallon wasn't fast enough to advance to Wednesday's final, tying for fifth in his heat with China's Qin Haiyang at 2:09.96. That was good enough for 10th overall, just missing the cutoff line for qualification. Fallon and Qin are reserves for Wednesday's race and will swim off for the second position to join Bulgaria's Lyubomir Epitropov.

MONDAY, JULY 29
*Blake Broszus W'24 started Monday off strong, opening his Olympic outing for Canada with an outstanding 15-8 win over Kruz Schembri of the US Virgin Islands in the men's foil individual table of 64. Ultimately, Broszus' time wrapped up during the table of 32, as Italy's Marini Tommaso took the bout 15-9.

*Dara Alizadeh C'15 continued his journey in Paris, taking the men's rowing single sculls semifinal E/F 2 heat at a time of 7:33.38 to advance to the E Finals on Friday.

*Regina Salmons C'18 and Team USA's Eight hit the water for the women's rowing eight, taking second place in the second heat at a time of 6:19.00 to move to repechage on Thursday to fight for a spot in the Final A race.

SUNDAY, JULY 28
*In the repechage round of the men's rowing single sculls Sunday morning, Slovenia's Isak Zvegelj C'25 got his redemption by winning the first heat at a time of 7:06.90 and advancing to Tuesday's quarterfinal round. The first two sculls advanced as he finished 4.67 seconds ahead of third place Mohamed Taieb of Tunisia. Bermuda's Dara Alizadeh C'15 didn't get as lucky, however, with his third-place finish in heat 3. That puts him into semifinal E/F on Monday.

*Malak Hamza C'28 began her Olympics journey with Egypt on Sunday, beginning action in the women's foil individual table of 32. Unfortunately for Hamza, her time in Paris came to a quick halt after falling to Germany's Anne Sauer, 15-3, in the first round.
