PHILADELPHIA – The Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Pennsylvania has announced the ten men and women who will comprise the Penn Athletics Hall of Fame Class XIV. This class will be inducted on Friday, September 25, 2026 in a ceremony to be held at The Inn at Penn. The following day, the group will be honored during halftime of the Penn football game against Lehigh at Franklin Field.

More information about this Hall of Fame class and the induction ceremony will be forthcoming. Biographies on each of the Hall of Famers can be found at the end of this release.

To be eligible for consideration into the Penn Athletics Hall of Fame as a student-athlete, a candidate must have graduated from the University or been a member of the General Alumni Society of Penn and earned his or her last letter at least 10 years ago. Candidates are selected based primarily on accomplishments during their undergraduate days at the University.

Coaches under Hall of Fame consideration must have coached at least five years and no longer be at Penn.

The Penn Athletics Hall of Fame inducted its Inaugural Class on April 13, 1996. The most recent induction, Class XIII, took place on September 27, 2024.

BORDEN, Alexis C'15, softball
Graduated with virtually every pitching record in program history … Four-time All-Ivy selection, earning first-team honors as a freshman and sophomore and second-team All-Ivy as a junior and senior … Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2012 … Led Penn to the two winningest seasons in program history—33 in 2012, 30 in 2013—four of the program's five Ivy League South Division championships, and what remains its only NCAA Championship appearance (2013) … At NCAAs, started both games and went the distance as Penn almost beat defending champion Arizona (losing 3-2 in 8 innings) … As a freshman in 2012, threw the first perfect game in program history in a South Division playoff vs. Cornell to qualify Penn for what was at the time just the program's second Ivy League Championship Series appearance … Also threw a no-hitter against Lafayette on March 15, 2013; only one other pitcher in program history has even thrown one no-hitter/perfect game (Jennifer Brann in 2019) … Holds program records for career starts (103) and complete games (79) … Her 64 career wins are a program record and 30 more than second place … Her 643 career strikeouts are a program record and more than double second place … Her 680.2 innings pitched are a program record and more than 120 ahead of second place … Her four-year career ERA (2.30) is second all-time … Holds four of the top five single-season strikeout totals in program history, including the record (193) set as a freshman … Holds two of the top three and four of the top 10 single-season win totals in program history, including the record (24) set as a freshman.
 
DelGIORNO, Don W'78, men's lacrosse
First-team USILA All-America as a junior and senior, just the second two-time first-team A-A in program history … Third-team USILA All-America as a sophomore … The first three-time first-team All-Ivy player in program history (1976, 77, 78) … Played on the first two teams in program history to play in the NCAA Championship (1975, 1977) … His junior year, Penn went 10-2 setting a program record for wins … Captain of the 1978 squad and played in the prestigious North/South Senior All-Star Game at the end of that season.

JAABER, Ibrahim C'07, men's basketball
Graduated with the Ivy League records for overall steals in a season (96 as a junior) and a career (303); both records still stand nearly 20 years later … His 303 career steals are nearly double second place on Penn's all-time list … Two-time honorable mention AP All-America … Two-time Ivy League Player of the Year, one of just three players in program history so honored (unanimous selection as a junior) … Two-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection; second-team All-Ivy as a sophomore … Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year as a senior, Penn's first such recipient since 1979 … Two-time first-team All-Big 5 … Graduated sixth in program history with 1,518 career points and seventh with 321 career assists … Dished out 162 assists his senior season, a program record that stood for five years … Still holds the program's top three marks for steals in a season (96 as a junior, 90 as a senior, 85 as a sophomore) … Finished fourth nationally in steals per game both as a junior (3.3) and as a senior (2.9) and was sixth as a sophomore (2.9).

MARKHAM, Meg C'15, women's lacrosse
2015 recipient of the University's Association of Alumnae Fathers' Trophy … Member of three Ivy League championship teams and two Ivy League Tournament championships (Penn made the ILT final all four  years she played) … Penn went 25-3 in Ivy play during her career … Two-time first-team IWLCA All-America … Two-time Ivy League Defender of the Year … Three-time first-team All-Ivy (unanimous selection twice) … Three-time first-team IWLCA All-Region … Two-time first-team ECAC All-Star … Tewaaraton Award nominee as a junior and senior … All-tournament selection at the Ivy League Tournament in 2013 and 2014 … Defender graduated with the program's top two marks for caused turnovers in a season (46 as a senior, 43 as a junior); those marks still stand 1-2 in 2026 … Led the Ivy League, fourth nationally in CTs as a senior … Also led Penn and third among Ivy players with 51 draw controls … Led the Ivy League, fifth nationally in CTs as a junior … Also led Penn and seventh among Ivy players with 42 draw controls … As a sophomore, led the team in caused turnovers and ground balls and third in draw controls.

RYAN, Kris C'02, football
Four-year letter winner from 1998-01, two-year captain (2000, 2001) … Member of two Ivy League championship teams (1998, 2000) … Remains the program's all-time leading rusher as of 2026 with 3,181 yards and graduated third on the program's all-time list for yards-per-carry average (5.2) … Graduated seventh on the Ivy League's all-time rushing list and sixth on the league's conference only list (2,303 yards) … Two-time unanimous first-team All-Ivy (1999, 2001), leading the league in rushing both of those seasons … Second-team All-Ivy as a junior … Led Penn in rushing three straight seasons (1999-2001) … His 1,304 rushing yards as a senior was second on Penn's single-season list at his graduation, while his 1,197 yards as a sophomore was fifth …As of 2026, one of just two players who have two different seasons on Penn's top-10 list … Ran for 256 yards against Fordham on October 9, 1999, the ninth 200-yard rushing game in program history and good for third on Penn's single-game list … One year later, had 243 yards against Cornell which was fifth on Penn's single-game list … Second player in program history with two 200-yard games in his career and still one of just three as of 2026 … Scored 33 career rushing touchdowns (second all-time) including 15 as a senior which was and remains third on the single-season list … Scored in 11 straight games, which was the longest streak in Ivy League history at the time of his graduation … Two-time team MVP (1999, 2001) … 1998 Harry Gamble Football Club Award recipient … Following graduation, signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Detroit Lions.

SHEPHERD, Dani C'14, volleyball
Two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year (2012, 13) … Three-time first-team All-Ivy … Two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region selection, one of just three players in program history to be so honored … Graduated second in program history with 1,764 career digs and fourth with 159 service aces … Her 617 digs as a junior remains the program's single-season record, and her 579 as a sophomore is still third all-time … Holds the top four and five of the top six spots on Penn's all-time list for digs in a match … As a junior, led the nation in digs per set (6.56) … As a sophomore, led the Ivy League and third nationally in digs per set (6.16) … As a senior, led the Ivy League and 12th nationally in digs per set (5.52) … Served up 32 aces as a sophomore, tops in the Ivy League … Also led Penn in aces her junior (25) and senior (26) seasons … Had seven aces at Toledo in 2011, which remains fourth on Penn's all-time list for a match.

SHINE, M. Carl MTE'59, GR'68, men's track & field
NCAA shot put champion in 1959; three-time IC4A shot put champion (outdoor 1958, indoor 1959, outdoor 1959); two-time Penn Relays champion in the college men's shot put (1958, 1959); three-time Indoor Heps champion in the shot put, Penn's first three-time indoor champion in the same event; two-time Outdoor Heps champion in the shot put; captain of 1958-59 track & field team; 1958-59 recipient of the Class of 1915 Award; Cane Award and General Alumni Society Award of Merit recipient as a senior; his outdoor shot put record (58 feet, 9.5 inches) remains the school record 60 years after his graduation.

SPRINGMAN, Rick ENG'02 GR'09, wrestling
Two-time NCAA All-American; 1998 Ivy League Rookie of the Year; 2000 EIWA champion at 174 pounds; Two-time first-team All-Ivy; Three-time team captain; Ranks No. 8 all-time in wins by a Penn wrestler with 109; Two-time Academic All-Ivy selection; Two-time NWCA All-Academic selection; CoSIDA Academic All-District selection

SWANSON, Chris W'16, men's swimming & diving
Won the NCAA title in the 1650 freestyle in 2016, making him the first (and still only) national champion in program history … His time that night (14:31.54) was the 11th-fastest in history by an American at the time … Also a three-time Honorable Mention All-America based on finishes at NCAA Championships (9th in 500 free in 2016, 11th in 1650 in 2015, 9th in 1650 free in 2014) … Competed at NCAAs all four years he was on campus … Won nine individual titles at the Ivy League Championships, more than any other swimmer in program history … Three-time recipient of the Phil Moriarty High Point of the Meet award at the Ivy Championships; no other swimmer in program history has won the award even once … His senior year, first swimmer in program history to be awarded the Harold Ulen Award for most points accumulated at Ivy Championships during his career … One of just two swimmers in Ivy history to win the 1650 freestyle title four times … One of just five swimmers in Ivy history to win the 500 freestyle three times … Graduated with program and Ivy League Championships records in the 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle, and 1650 freestyle; all three records still stand as program marks and he still holds the top two 1650 times in Ivy Championships history as of 2026.

COACH: WAGNER, Bill, sprint football, baseball, Director's Award
The face of sprint football at the University of Pennsylvania, Bill Wagner spent 50 years as head coach of the Penn Quakers from 1970-2019 … Five-time CSFL champion and finished his career with 141 victories … Honored in 2002 when his name was put on the trophy that goes to the highest Ivy League finisher in the CSFL each year, the William R. Wagner Trophy. Since receiving the honor, Wagner won the trophy 11 times … Built an extensive network of alumni who have stayed closely connected with the program … Led the Quakers to a 7-0 finish to clinch the championship in 2016 … In 2010, his team went 6-1 and was named CSFL Co-Champions … Led the Quakers to another undefeated season in 2000, going 6-0, the program's first perfect season since 1931. It was also the first time the Red and Blue defeated Army and Navy in the same season … Recorded his first ELFL title in 1996, leading Penn to a 5-1 overall mark and a tie for the league championship … In 1998, led by MVP Tim Ortman, the team again captured the league title … Also served as the pitching coach for Penn baseball from 1971-2005 … Wagner's diamond accolades include the Quakers' national ERA title in 1988 (2.72), three straight Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League (EIBL) titles from 1988-90 and Penn's trip to the NCAA Midwest Regional in Oklahoma City, Okla. after winning the 1995 Ivy League Championship … Was inducted into the South Jersey Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999 … In his career at Penn, Wagner was the head coach for 141 wins in sprint football and an assistant coach for 634 wins with the Quakers baseball program … More than 1,500 Penn alums can say they played for him.
