PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team will be represented at this year's
FIBA U20 Eurobasket, as incoming freshman Michelangelo Oberti will play for Italy. The nine-day event starts Saturday, July 13 and will run through Sunday, July 21 in Gdynia, Poland.
The Italians will play in the top flight at the championship event and are slotted in Group B. They will play Germany on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. Eastern Time), Israel on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. (2:30 Eastern), and Czechia on Monday at 3:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. Eastern) in group play. Knockout play starts on Wednesday, July 17, with quarterfinals on Thursday, July 18 and semifinals on Saturday, July 20. The championship game will take place on Sunday, July 21 although all teams are guaranteed seven games across the nine days.
Oberti is the third current Quaker to compete in Eurobasket competition the last two summers, as rising junior
Johnnie Walter played for Germany in last year's U20 Championship and rising sophomore
Niklas Polonowski played for Denmark at last year's U18 Eurobasket.
All games in the 2024 U20 Eurobasket will air on
FIBA's YouTube channel.
