ITHACA, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight crew was unable to defend the Matthews Trophy and Leonard Cup on Saturday at the Cayuga Inlet, both pieces of hardware staying in Ithaca after Cornell swept all four races contested Saturday morning.

Varsity Eights (Matthews Trophy)
A spirited race between three boats ranked among the top four in the most recent national poll. Top-ranked Harvard, rowing in the race as a guest, pulled out the victory by clocking 5:57.8 over Cayuga's 2,000-meter course. Second-ranked Cornell was less than two seconds behind, in 5:59.7, while fourth-ranked Penn was less than two seconds behind the Big Red in 6:01.5.
Second Varsity Eights
Cornell won this three-boat race by just over two seconds, clocking 6:09.8 which was ahead of second-place Penn (6:12.0) with Harvard a distant third (6:18.7).
Third Varsity Eights
Cornell rolled to the win in this race, clocking 6:16.5 which was nearly 11 seconds ahead of second-place Penn (6:27.4). Harvard again was a distant third behind the Quakers, in 6:40.3.
Fourth Varsity Eights
Cornell and Penn were the only competitors in this race, the Big Red clocking 6:32.6 and beating the Quakers (7:08.7).
