#14 Women's Lax Readies For Senior Day Game Saturday vs. Brown

PHILADELPHIA – Following a 13-6 win over No. 5 Loyola in its final non-conference game of the season, the No. 14 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team closes out the home portion of the 2024 regular season on Saturday with Ivy rival Brown.

Following the game, the Quakers will celebrate Senior Day and honor graduating seniors Julia Chai, Kaitlyn Cumiskey, Sophie Davis, Lexi Edmonds, Vanessa Ewing, Aly Feeley, Morgan Smith, and Maria Themelis. (Some other seniors on the roster were honored at last year's Senior Day and will not be part of this year's festivities.)

The Ivy League Tournament Scenario
Penn can clinch its spot in the Ivy League Tournament with a win on Saturday. That would push the Quakers to 4-2 and only Harvard (which is at Columbia Saturday) and Cornell (which is at Yale later in the day) would be in a position to catch them. Since Penn already beat both the Crimson and the Big Red this season, the Quakers would be in by winning all head-to-head tiebreakers.

The Series with Brown
*This is the 44th meeting between the Quakers and the Bears in women's lacrosse, Penn holding a sizable 34-9 lead in the overall series.

*Penn's win streak is currently at 18 games, dating back to the 2004 season. The last time the Quakers lost to Bruno here in Philadelphia? 2000.

*The Red and Blue earned an 18-5 win in Providence last season, as Niki Miles racked up nine points (7g/2a) and Anna Brandt collected five (4g/1a).

*Junior Keeley Block is eighth in shots per game (6.00).

Quaker Notemeal
*Despite a road Ivy League win on Saturday at Cornell, Penn dropped from 12th to 14th in the IWLCA poll. The Quakers remain 12th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. Those numbers figure to change next week after Wednesday's rout.

*Wednesday's win had an immediate effect on the Quakers' rating in the NCAA's Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), as Penn moved up from seventh to fifth.

*Penn had won 11 Ivy League regular-season games in a row going back to the 2022 season, before falling 14-9 at Princeton two weeks ago. That included an undefeated 7-0 campaign last year when the Quakers won their 14th Ancient Eight title.

*The Red and Blue then defeated Harvard and Yale to win the Ivy League Tournament, earning the league's NCAA Championship automatic bid. In its 16th NCAA appearance, Penn beat UConn in the first round and gave eventual finalist Boston College all it could handle in the second round before falling, 9-7.

*Penn returns almost all the key components from last year's team including the reigning Ivy League Attacker of the Year (senior Niki Miles), Midfielder of the Year (junior Anna Brandt), and Defender of the Year (senior Izzy Rohr). The trio has garnered preseason All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse, and Miles and Rohr were named to the Tewaaraton Award's preseason watch list.

*The trio made history last year, as it marked the first time players from the same program won all three major positional honors since the Ivy League began awarding them in 2013. (Prior to that, the Ivy League did a Player of the Year and a Rookie of the Year.)

*Penn had 10 women earn All-Ivy last year; all of them are back this season. (This does not include junior Keeley Block, who missed last season due to injury after earning honorable mention All-Ivy recognition as a freshman in 2022. So make it 11 All-Ivy players in the lineup.)
FIRST TEAM: Brandt (unanimous), Miles (unanimous), Rohr (unanimous)
SECOND TEAM: Erika Chung, Kaitlyn Cumiskey, Grace Fujinaga, Maria Themelis, Kelly Van Hoesen
HONORABLE MENTION: Aly Feeley, Natasha Gorriaran

*Not surprisingly, Penn was a unanimous pick to repeat as conference champion this season, scooping up all 16 first-place votes for 128 points in the Ivy League's preseason media poll that was announced on February 13.

*On top of the returning group, the Quakers secured two transfers for this season: Grace Turner (Stanford) and Carli Fleisher (Northwestern). Fleisher—named the 2022 National High School Player of the Year by USA Lacrosse Magazine—had her first two collegiate points at Temple, a goal and an assist.

*Miles has picked up where she left off last year, leading Penn with 37 goals and 52 points. She had five points (3g/2a) last Saturday at Cornell and scored twice Wednesday against Loyola.

*Miles has a goal-scoring streak of 33 games (started 5/1/22 vs. Columbia) and a point-scoring streak of 37 games (started 4/9/22 at Cornell).

*Miles had a multi-goal and multi-point streak of 25 games, dating back to last season (started 3/11/23 at Jacksonville), that was snapped April 7 at Yale when she was held to a goal.

*Miles reached the 100-goal milestone for her career in Penn's win over Georgetown on March 12; she became the 14th player in program history to reach that milestone and the first since Zoe Belodeau in 2021.

*Miles also leads the team with 64 draw controls and had just the fifth double-figure game in program history in that category on March 24 with 10 against Harvard. She is followed by Brandt (43) and Feeley (37).

*Brandt is second behind Miles in scoring, with 36 goals, and has multiple goals and multiple points in Penn's last 10 games including four goals last Saturday at Cornell and Wednesday vs. Loyola

*Chung leads the Quakers with 25 assists and tied her season/career high two weeks ago at Yale with five.

*Currently on the program's all-time lists: Miles is seventh in career goals (118) and sixth in career points (170); Brandt is ninth in career goals (114) and 21st in career points (120); Chung is seventh in career assists (66).

*Block was Penn's second-leading scorer and honorable mention All-Ivy recognition as a freshman in 2022; she is back after missing all of last season due to injury. The junior has multiple points in nine games, multiple goals in six, and had a two-goal, two-assist performance Wednesday vs. Loyola.

*Freshman Catherine Berkery has 24 goals and has hit for multiple goals in each of the last three games; she already has 11 multi-point and eight multi-goal games this season.

*Defensively, Davis leads Penn and the Ivy League with 22 caused turnovers, followed by Feeley, Fujinaga and Rohr (17 each), junior Natasha Gorriaran (16), Brandt (13), and Miles (10).

*The Quakers are led by four captains this season: Miles, Rohr, Maria Themelis, and Morgan Smith.

*Head coach Karin Corbett is in her 25th season at the helm. The coach for 12 of Penn's 14 Ivy titles and a two-time Ivy League Coach of the Year—the honor has only been given since 2015—she has been head coach for 264 of the program's 417 wins.

*As part of her 116-43 Ivy League regular season record at Penn, Corbett is 95-15 (.864) since the 2007 season. That includes 36 straight wins from 2006-11, tied for the longest win streak in league history with Harvard (1987-93).

*Of note, Corbett's 116 Ivy League wins are third in conference history—behind only Princeton's Chris Sailer (183 from 1987-2022) and Dartmouth's Amy Patton (118 from 1993-2016)—her 12 Ivy League titles are second all-time behind Sailer (16), and her seven outright titles are behind only Harvard's Carole Kleinfelder (9 from 1980-2003).
