Men's Golf Finishes Second at Battle at Rum Pointe

BERLIN, Md. - The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team shaved seven strokes off its score from the first round to the second round, but it wasn't enough as La Salle passed the Quakers in today's second round and pulled out the team title by a stroke at the Battle at Rum Pointe. The 36-hole tournament was hosted by Iona on the par-72 Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links.

After shooting 299 as a team on Friday, the Quakers carded 292 on Saturday to finish the event at 15-over-par 591. That was one stroke behind La Salle, which shot 289 on Saturday to finish at 590. The host Gaels were third at 593.

Jimin Jung shot his second 73 in as many days and ended the tournament at 2-over-par 146, tying him for fourth in a field of 98 golfers. Freshman Max Fonseca scored with a second-round 76 and finished at 3-over-par 147 which had him tied for seventh. Ben Scott tied for the best round by a Penn player in the tournament with a 1-under-par 71 and tied for 15th at 6-over-par 150, while Hayden Adams was the Quakers' other scorer on Saturday with an even-par 72 that left him at 9-over-par 153. George Roessler was the other Penn player in the field and finished at 11-over-par 155.

La Salle's Ben Battye was the individual champion, shooting 69-68 to finish at 7-under-par 137. That had him six strokes ahead of Iona's Sahir Balyan who was second.
