PHILADELPHIA – It's hard to believe it's that time of the year already, but the University of Pennsylvania football team begins its spring practice slate on Friday evening, starting preparation for the 2024 season.
Â
The Quakers are coming off a fifth-place finish in the Ivy League standings after an ultra-competitive conference season that gave every team a chance at the title heading into the final weeks of the year. Penn finished the campaign with a 6-4 overall record, going 3-4 in Ancient Eight play with victories over Columbia, Cornell, and eventual co-champion Yale.
Â
Returning to the fold this spring is reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year
Malachi Hosley, who completed one of the most productive seasons at running back in program history. An FCS Freshman All-America by two publications, Hosley ran wild for 723 rushing yards (ranked second in the Ivy) on 121 carries with seven touchdowns. He also took home first-team All-Ivy laurels for his performances.
Â
First-teamers
Jared Richardson (WR) and Hosley (RB), along with second-teamer
Jack Fairman (LB), and honorable mention picks
Aidan Sayin (QB),
Bryce Myers (TE), and
Paul Jennings (DL) are all expected to receive many reps this spring as the Quakers start to get going on Friday.
Â
This spring will also feature an influx of new faces on George A. Munger Head Coach
Ray Priore's coaching staff including new offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
Greg Chimera, defensive backs coach
Marvin Clecidor, running backs coach
Jordan Johnson, and tight ends coach
David Josephson.
Â
Spring practice begins on Friday and will go each Sunday, Wednesday and Friday (with the exception of Easter Sunday) until the Penn Spring Game on April 20. The Quakers' annual awards banquet will take place on Friday, April 19.
