PHILADELPHIA- The 54th-ranked University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team went 2-0 with a pair of wins over two City 6 rivals Friday afternoon. The Red and Blue downed Temple 4-2 and handled Saint Joseph's 4-0 at the Hamlin Tennis Center.

The Quakers are 12-7 and improve to 9-2 at home.

In the opening match against the Owls, Penn secured the doubles points with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. On court one, Parashar Bharadwaj/Manfredi Graziani took down Aayush Bhat/Paul Hannack 6-2 and on court three, Aaron Sandler/Tal Goodman handled Dante Russo/Pranav Nemani 6-4 to make the match 1-0.

In singles action, Matthew Rutter flew by Erden Er, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 to extend Penn's lead 2-0. At No.6, Goodman picked up a straight set victory over Bhat, including a 6-0 win in set two, as the Quakers led 3-0.

From there, Temple battled to stay in the match, picking up two straight wins. Bharadwaj dropped his match at No. 5 and Graziani fell at No. 1, as the score stood 3-2.

The match came down to Baylor Sai at No. 3 and Sandler at No. 2.

As for Sai, he dropped the initial set 6-3, took the second set 6-4 and solidified the match with a 6-3 win in the final set over Gregoire Barety.

Among matches that did not finish, Sandler was in the fifth game of the third set at No. 2.

In the matchup against Saint Joseph's the Red and Blue dominated doubles play. Bharadwaj/Graziani took down Justus Agbo/Stergios Achilleas Papadopoulos 6-1 at No. 2 and Goodman/Sandler defeated John Butler/Eli Gan-Dy at No. 3 6-2 to give Penn the 1-0 lead.

In singles action, Bharadwaj downed Jack Campbell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and moments later Rutter picked up the straight set victory over Achilleas Papadopoulos at No. 4 to make the match 3-0.

Needing just one more win to secure the victory, Graziani came away with the 6-4, 6-2 win over Justus Agbo at No. 1 to ensure a 4-0 finish.

Among incomplete matches, Sandler was starting the third set at No. 2, Sai was in the sixth game of set two at No. 3, and at No. 6 Goodman was in his sixth game of set two.

Up Next
Penn will be back at home next weekend to host Drexel and Wagner. The Dragons will visit for a 12:00 p.m. first serve, and the matchup against the Seahawks will begin at 4:00 p.m. This will wrap up non-conference play, as the Quakers will gear up towards Ivy League contests the following weekend.
