STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Another week, another meet, and three more records broken for the University of Pennsylvania track and field programs. The Quakers wrapped up another successful trip to Happy Valley on Saturday at the Sykes & Sabock Invitational.
Â
With plenty of great performances for both teams, the Quakers had 14 moves in the program's top 10 including three new program records. The men secured two of them, while the women had the other.
Â
The first one of the afternoon came in the women's mile, as
Olivia Morganti grinded through for a third-place finish in a time of 4:40.21. The time erased her personal best by more than eight seconds and jumped a program record held since 2016 by Ashley Montgomery (4:41.26).
Â
On the men's side, the action kicked off at throws where
Scott Dochat set a new bar in program history in the weight throw. On his second attempt, he became the first Quaker in program history to reach 20 meters, taking second place and securing his spot atop the program record book in the event. The previous record was held by Jake Kubiatowicz who landed 19.57m in 2020.
Â
The last record was broken in the 4x400m relay, a mark that stood in the Penn record book since 1998. On Saturday evening,
Ryan Matulonis,
Dimitri Nicholson,
Nayyir Newash-Campbell, and
Alec Jackson teamed up for a third-place time of 3:12.31, narrowly setting the new program mark by .03 seconds.
Â
The Quakers are back in action next weekend for a pair of meets. Part of the team will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia for the Darius Dixon Memorial at Liberty, while the other part continues further south to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational. Both meets are two-day events, beginning on Friday.
