How It Happened
Though the Great Danes opened the scoring about 47 seconds into the game, that was their last lead of the contest, as the Quakers went off offensively, scoring five unanswered goals to lead 5-1 after the first quarter.

Junior DiNola opened the scoring for the Red and Blue five minutes into the battle to tie things up, while Smith scored his first of the day a few minutes later to push Penn ahead 2-1.

Freshman McMullan scored his first college goal off a feed from senior Robert Schain to double the lead. The Quakers added back-to-back goals to the board with three minutes left of the quarter as Furey netted his first of the year, followed by Constanzo scoring directly off the face-off to extend the lead to 5-1 heading to the second.

The Great Danes capitalized on a man-up advantage five minutes into the second to cut the deficit to three goals, but Rubin scored right as a penalty on UAlbany expired to tally his first of the year to put the Red and Blue up 6-2. UAlbany caught a spark with ten minutes left of the first half, scoring three goals to trail by one going into halftime.

Smith opened the third with his second goal of the game to lengthen the deficit. UAlbany got within one again as Alex Pfeiffer scored 20 seconds after Smith to cut the lead to 7-6.

Luckily for Penn, juniors Smith and Walsh found some fire mid-third, with Smith recording his first hat trick of the year with five minutes left of the third while Walsh tallied back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 10-6 to close the quarter.

The final 15 minutes started off slow for both offenses until Smith scored his fourth and final goal with six minutes on the clock. The Great Danes tried to rally a comeback with three minutes left of the game, but Carroll and the defense prevailed to hold UAlbany at seven goals to secure Penn's first win of the year.
