How It Happened
The game was back-and-forth till the final horn, as the margin never exceeded three goals. The Blue Hens struck first midway through the opening quarter, but a holding penalty on Delaware gave Penn a man-up opportunity and DiNola found the back of Kevin Ellington's net to even things out.

Rubin gave Penn its first lead three minutes later, finishing a Walsh feed to close out the first quarter. Furey then kept the offense going to open the second quarter, slamming one past the Blue Hens' keeper to push the Red and Blue ahead 3-1 three minutes into the period.

The lead kept changing hands for most of the quarter, as Delaware scored two unassisted goals within a minute to tie the game at three with 10:27 left of the first half. Hoffman scored his third goal of the season to give the Quakers the lead again, but a three-goal offensive spark from the Blue Hens gave them a 6-4 advantage to close the first half.

It seemed like the third quarter was going to continue to be dominated by Delaware, as Brendan Powers snuck one past Carroll to extend the Hens' lead to three, but a five-goal run by the Quakers shifted the pace of the game in their favor.
At around the ten-minute mark, Walsh could not be kept off the ball as he dished out three assists in a two-minute span to Rubin, Smith, and DiNola to level things at 7-7. Rubin then completed his hat trick with 3:09 left in the period to give the Red and Blue their first lead of the half, 8-7. With less than 13 seconds left, the junior connection kept going as DiNola returned the favor to Walsh, sending him a pass that Walsh converted to make the gap two heading into the final frame.

The nationally ranked Blue Hens roared into the opening minutes of the fourth, as Jason Kolar netted back-to-back goals to tie the game for the fifth and final time at nine.

With 8:39 on the clock, Walsh caught a quality feed from senior Shipley, slamming it past Ellington to break the tie. Six minutes later, junior Mulligan scored his first collegiate goal, and what would eventually be the difference, widening the gap to 11-9 and bringing the Quakers closer to victory.

The final 13 seconds of the game were action-packed. Delaware's JP Ward squeezed one past Carroll to slash the lead to one goal again. Then, as time was dwindling, the Blue Hens won the faceoff and had two more shots at the Quaker keeper. Both were off target (the first ringing the pipe) and Penn was able to escape with the 11-10 victory.
