Â
ABOUT THE DRAGONS
*Drexel has already notched a pair of wins to open its season, toppling Binghamton (14-6) and Wagner (15-3).
Â
*The Dragons are led by fifth-year attacker Corinne Bednarik. The reigning CAA Attacker of the Year has totaled 10 goals and nine assists through the first two games to lead the offense. A player that has started in every game of her collegiate career at Drexel, she has 133 goals and 79 assists for 212 points in her career.
Â
*The program is led by Katie O'Donnell in her third season. A 2018 grad from Penn State where she was a two-time All-American midfielder, she guided the Dragons the past two seasons with the interim tag before being officially named the full-time head coach in May 2023. Â
Â
QUAKER NOTEMEAL
*The Quakers have won their last 10 season openers. Last year, they defeated La Salle 21-1 to start the 2023 campaign.
Â
*Penn returns practically a complete 2023 roster outside of
Kennon Moon to graduation, including all Ivy League major award winners in
Niki Miles, Brandt and
Izzy Rohr. The trio has garnished several preseason All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse and US Lacrosse.
Â
*On top of a large returning group, the Quakers secured two transfers:
Grace Turner (Stanford) and
Carli Fleisher (Northwestern).
Â
*Joining the Red & Blue for their first collegiate season is a class of eight freshmen, hailing from six different states.
Â
*The Quakers will be led by four captains this season: Miles, Rohr,
Maria Themelis, and
Morgan Smith.
Â
*Head coach
Karin Corbett enters her 25th season at the helm, owning 254 of the program's 407 wins.
Â
*Penn is coming off a 14-5 record in 2023, nailing a perfect Ivy League record of 7-0 en route to the program's 14th title. After hosting and rolling through the Ivy League tournament to earn the Quakers' 16th berth to the NCAA tournament, they advanced to the second round for the first time since 2018 before falling in a tight game to national runner-up Boston College, currently No. 2 in the nation.
Â
*The Ivy League announced its preseason media poll earlier in the week, as Penn was selected a unanimous pick to repeat as conference champion. The Quakers scooped all 16 first-place votes for 128 points.
