PRINCETON, N.J. – The University of Pennsylvania men's swimming and diving team swam fast and made up ground to take over second place following the second day of racing at Princeton's Big Al Invitational Saturday at DeNunzio Pool.
Following Day 2, the Quakers sit in second place with 574 points behind the Tigers (798.5).
Matt Fallon won a tight race in the 100 breaststroke, while
Cody Hopkins claimed victory in the one-meter dive.
Quaker Notemeal
*Fallon swam an NCAA B-Cut mark of 52.16 in the 100 breast, beating out fellow teammate
Watson Nguyen in second (52.73), also a B-Cut time.
Peter Whittington took seventh at 54.41 with
Jeffrey Hou placing eighth (54.89).
*Hopkins put together a solid effort in the three-meter dive on Saturday to pick up the win with a score of 313.55.
*Freshman
Can John Yeniay had himself a nice race in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:37.42 to finish third.
Max Malakhovets swam a 1:38.12 to place fifth with
Xavier Hill in eighth (1:41.91).
*Hou took fifth in the 100 butterfly with a 47.72, while
Peter Whittington swam an NCAA B-Cut time of 3:48.66 in the 400 IM to also place fifth.
*Penn had two solid relay finishes in both the 800 free relay—a second-place finish—as
James Curreri, Fallon, Malakhovets, and Yeniay swam a 6:31.52 and the 200-medley relay—placing third—with Hou, Nguyen,
Alex Fu, and
Liam Campbell clocking a 1:27.11.
