Collins Begins Penn Career With Ivy League Rookie of the Week Honor

PHILADELPHIA – After helping lead the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team to a 2-0 week with victories over Merrimack (Fri.) and Maine (Sun.), freshman Katie Collins was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Collins had herself an excellent collegiate debut at The Palestra on Friday, scoring nine points with 10 rebounds, and six blocks to beat the Warriors. On Sunday, she stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, eight boards, five assists, three steals, and a block in the Quakers' 56-52 victory over the Black Bears in Orono.

For the weekend, Collins averaged 8.5 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game, 3.5 blocks per game, and 2.0 steals per game while averaging a team-high 36.0 minutes in two starts.

Senior Stina Almqvist, who averaged 16 points and nearly eight boards in her two games, was named to the Ivy League's weekly honor roll.

Penn plays twice this week at home, taking on Siena Wednesday at 6 p.m. before opening Big 5 pod play on Friday against Saint Joseph's at The Palestra. Tip off for that game is set for 4:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+ while the SJU matchup will air simultaneously regionally on NBC Sports Philadelphia+.
