Field Hockey Continues Homestand vs. Columbia (Fri), Villanova (Sun)

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team will continue its homestand this weekend, taking on Columbia in a crucial Ivy League contest on Friday before facing off against City 6-rival Villanova on Sunday.

Penn vs Columbia Series 
Penn has a slight edge in the all-time series, leading 15-12. In the last 10 contests, each team has five wins with four games going to overtime. The Quakers won the last three meetings, including a 2-0 win in New York last year.
 
Penn vs Villanova Series 
Since their first matchup in 1974, Penn leads the series 20-17-2. In the last 10 previous meetings, Penn is 7-3, but it has lost its last two contests. In last year's game, Honor Roberts scored her first two collegiate goals in a 3-2 loss.
 
Quaker Notemeal
*Julia Ryan's nine points on the season ranks top 5 in the Ivy League. With her goal against Yale, she exceeded her 2023 season points total in just seven games. Ryan leads the Quakers in goals and assists.
 
*Meghan McGinley recorded her second defensive save of the season against American on Sunday. She is one of five players in the Ivy League with multiple defensive saves.
 
*In the game against American, the Quakers did not concede a single penalty corner. It's the first time they had done so since their 6-0 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Sept. 9, 2016. 
 
Scouting The Lions
Columbia enters Friday's contest with a 2-5 record (1-1 Ivy), having lost its last three games. Its most recent loss was a 1-0 defeat to Wagner on the road.

Katie Wimmer has been stellar in the cage this season for the Lions. The Windham, N.H. native has been one of the best goalies in the country, ranking second Division I in save percentage and top 20 in goals-against-average. In her last six games, she has allowed five goals.
 
Senior Lindsey Yu paces the team in points and goals with four and two respectively.
 
Scouting The Wildcats
Villanova are 6-4 on season, having won four straight games before dropping its last game to No. 7 Iowa, 2-0, on Sunday.
 
The Wildcats feature two of the best offensive players in the BIG EAST. Sabine de Ruijter ranks third in the conference with eight goals and Meghan Mitchell is tied for sixth in points with 14. 
 
Maddi Sears has started all 10 games in the cage for the Wildcats with a 1.68 goals-against-average and 0.652 save percentage.
