LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team enjoyed a successful weekend at Liberty University. The weekend event was played in a hidden duals format and featured the host Flames as well as Elon, Navy and Virginia.
The first day was a joint match between Elon and Navy, where the Quakers went 5-3 in singles and 2-2 in doubles.
Penn proceeded to sweep the final two days, winning 5-3 on Saturday against Virginia (a team that made it to the quarterfinals of last year's NCAA Championship) and then 6-2 over Liberty on Sunday.
Freshmen
Shaurya Bharadwaj,
Sanjeev Chundu and
Justin Chung all made their Penn debuts.
Tal Goodman and Bharadwaj went a perfect 3-0 on the singles side with a 2-1 record on the doubles side.
Matthew Rutter also was unbeaten on the singles side, winning his matches on Friday and Sunday.
