SERIES AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
The Quakers are meeting Yale for the 46th time in program history, holding a 29-14-2 lead in the all-time series. Penn is 17-4-1 against the Bulldogs at home, including a perfect 5-0 at Ellen Vagelos Field.
Â
LAST TIME WE MET
Penn traveled to New Haven last season, dropping a tight 3-2 overtime decision to the Bulldogs.
Allison Kuzyk and
Courtney Kenah each scored in regulation to send the game to extra time. However, Yale scored the game-winner four minutes into overtime.
Frederique Wollaert had a great outing with nine saves in the cage.
Â
SERIES AGAINST THE HAWKS
The two squads are squaring off for the 25th time in program history. The Quakers maintain a 14-10 lead in the all-time series, although the Hawks have won the last three matchups. Penn is 7-5 on its home turf, but 1-2 at Ellen Vagelos Field. The last time the Quakers beat the Hawks was in 2016, edging out SJU 5-4 in a tight battle on Hawk Hill.
Â
LAST TIME WE MET
The Quakers hosted the then-No. 9 Hawks in 2021, the first year back from the pandemic, falling to a 4-0 decision. Penn had four shots in the game with a pair going on target off the sticks of
Lis Zandbergen and
Sophie Freedman.
GOLD IN SEPTEMBER
Sunday's game against Saint Joseph's is the team's Gold in September game, as the program helps the fight against childhood cancer.
Annie Bartosz created the program when she was just 11 years old, putting together gold being the national color for pediatric cancer and September as the recognized National Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Bartosz put together the foundation when she lost her brother at the age of 11 after battling neuroblastoma for seven years, to help families avoid the feeling their family went through in that moment.
Â
PENN'S LAST TIME OUT
The Quakers hopped a flight to Illinois this past weekend, playing a pair of Big Ten matchups on the campus of Northwestern. On Saturday, the Quakers battled back-and-forth with Indiana, needing the game to go all the way to a shootout to decide the victor. Kuzyk evened the score with Penn's lone goal in the second frame, however, the shootout went in favor of the Hoosiers, 3-0, to take the 2-1 decision. Penn outshot Indiana, 20-8, in the contest, while Wollaert made five saves in the cage. On Sunday, the Quakers went up against one of the best defenses in the country in No. 3 Northwestern, a squad that has only given up three goals all season, falling 3-1. Kuzyk scored for the second straight day and third time this season, while Wollaert racked up a career-high 11 saves.
