INDIANAPOLIS – Wednesday evening was familiar territory for
Matthew Fallon, who claimed the 200-meter breaststroke national title for the second straight year at Phillips 66 National Championships at IUPUI Natatorium.
Â
Carrying the top seed time heading into Wednesday's finals, Fallon swam a blistering 2:07.71, the sixth-fastest time in U.S. history to earn a spot on the United States National Team at World Aquatics Championships next month in Fukuoka, Japan.
Last season, the Penn rising junior swam a 2:07.91 in the event, picking up a two-tenth drop in 2023 en route to the gold medal.
Â
Fallon was excellent in the back half of the race, splitting a 32.06 on the third 50 to go from sixth place to first. He timed a 33.19 on the final 50 meters to take home the victory.
Â
Teammate
Daniel Gallagher swam to a 39th-place finish earlier in the day during the prelim round of the 200-meter backstroke, swimming a 2:02.47.
Â
Fallon will swim the 50m breast on Thursday, the 100m breast on Friday and the 200 IM on Saturday to conclude his weekend in Indianapolis.
