Kalandadze Invited to Represent U.S. at World University Games in China

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Anna Kalandadze will get another chance to represent the University of Pennsylvania this fall after being invited to represent the United States at the World University Games in Chengdu, China.

Kalandadze will become the first female swimmer from Penn to compete for the U.S. at a major international competition.

The games, which were scheduled to run in August 2021, were postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic but will take place two years later.

USA Swimming opted not to field a team for the event, opening the opportunity for current college swimmers to compete for their country. Kalandadze was one of 32 swimmers selected by the United States International University Sports Federation (US-IUF) over the last few months.

Kalandadze finished up her career with the Quakers in March after swimming to a 10th place finish at NCAA Championships, earning second-team All-America honors in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:55.60). She claimed two Ivy championships in the 500 free (4:38.58) and the 1,650 free with a new Ivy League record time of 15:53.88. She earned first-team All-Ivy honors in both events.

Kalandadze set two program records in 2023, the 1,650 free and the 400-yard individual medley, where she swam a time of 4:15.13.
