PURCHASE, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team is in first place after the first day of play at the Ivy League Championships. The three-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par-72 Century Country Club.
 
Penn shot 8-over-par 296 as a team in Friday's first round, which left the Quakers one stroke ahead of second-place Princeton (297), Harvard is right in the mix after shooting 300 on Friday, while Yale is fourth (306) followed by Dartmouth and Columbia. Penn's 296 score is the second-best in program history at the Championships, behind only a second-round, 7-over-par 295 at the 2014 tournament.

Senior Susan Xiao led the way for the Quakers on Friday. She shot an even-par 72 which left her tied for second in the field of 30 golfers, two strokes behind Harvard's Isabella Gomez. Xiao's even-par round was tied for the fourth-best in program history at the Championships, and she finished the day tied for first in the field in par-4 scoring (+1) and birdies (4).
 
Freshman Bridget O'Keefe carded a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for fourth after one round, while Julie Shin and Natalie Cao both shot 3-over-par 75 and are part of a group tied for sixth overall. Of note, Cao had one of just two eagles on the day and ended the first round tied for first in the field in both par-3 scoring (-1) and par-5 scoring (-3). O'Keefe joined Cao atop the leaderboard in par-3 scoring, while Shin joined Xiao tied for first on the par-4 scoring list. Selina Li completed Penn's lineup on Friday, shooting an 80 to finish out of the scoring.
