PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team looks to solidify its spot among the top four in the Ivy League this weekend with a three-game series in Providence against Brown, starting Friday at 3:30 PM

The Quakers currently sit in sole possession of third place in the conference, one game back of Columbia and Harvard and one game clear of fourth-place Princeton.

The Series: Brown
Friday will be the 164th meeting between Penn and Brown. The Quakers lead the all-time series against the Bears 83-75-5 record dating back to 1885, including a 12-5 mark under head coach John Yurkow.

Previewing Penn
The Quakers have won seven of their last eight and are a season-high six games above .500. The team has scored at least nine runs and recorded at least nine hits in six of those seven wins, with the pitching staff holding the opposition to five runs or fewer in five of those victories. Penn is now averaging more than 7.4 runs per contest for the season, while allowing fewer than 4.5 runs per game.

Ben Miller has hit safely in all nine conference games and enters the weekend at a .395 clip. He's one of five Quakers over .300, a big reason for Penn's conference-best .295 average in conference play. Additional conference bests for the Red and Blue include extra-base hits (39), slugging percentage (.502), and fielding percentage (.985).

On the mound, Penn ranks first in ERA (3.07), strikeouts (104), and batting average against (.201) in conference play. The weekend rotation of Owen Coady, Cole Zaffiro, and Ryan Dromboski rank 1st, 2nd, and 5th in ERA in Ancient Eight play, respectively. The trio also rank among the Top 10 in strikeouts and opponent batting average (among starting pitchers).

Previewing Brown
The Bears enter the weekend 7-18 on the season and 4-5 in Ivy play, most recently coming off a sweep of Cornell.

Overall, the team is sixth in the league in batting average, and seventh in the category in conference games. They're also ranked among the bottom three in conference play in runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and total bases.

Mika Petersen's started seven conference games (played eight) and hit safely in all eight; he leads the team with a .424 average in Ivy play. Jacob Burley, Jared Johnson, DJ Dillehay are the other everyday players hitting over .300 in conference play; Dillehay has half of the team's four home runs in their Ancient Eight games.

The pitching staff is seventh in conference play in ERA (7.43). Santhosh Gottam and Tobey McDonough have started all three previous conference weekends, with the duo each coming off their best performance of the season against the Big Red. The two combined to allow one run and 11 hits in 12.2 innings, striking out 16.

Jack Seppings has already appeared in six conference games out of the bullpen. He appeared in all three games against Cornell last weekend, tossing 4.2 scoreless, hitless innings.
