SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team dropped the opening match of their Spring Break trip to #45 Pepperdine, 4-1, on Sunday evening.
The #41 Quakers dropped the doubles point with the Waves winning at No. 2 and No. 3. The No. 1 match featuring the #3 (
Edoardo Graziani/
Kevin Zhu) and #36 (Daniel De Jonge/Tim Zeitvogel) teams in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) doubles rankings was halted.
In singles action, Pepperdine grabbed a 3-0 lead with straight-set wins at No. 6 and No. 4. After
Manfredi Graziani picked up a three-set win at No. 5, the No. 1 battle between the ITA's #61 (De Jonge) and #66 (E. Graziani) players went to DeJonge in three sets, clinching the match.
Among the matches that did not finish,
Aditya Gupta was three games into the third set of his match at No. 2, and
Kevin Zhu was leading 4-2 in the third set of his match at No. 3.
