DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Pennsylvania women's fencing team earned 40 bout victories Saturday during Day 3 of the NCAA Championships from Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Adding in the 57 victories compiled by the men on Thursday and Friday, the Quakers sit in sixth place in the team competition heading into Sunday, more than a dozen wins clear of seventh place and within five wins of fifth place.
In the individual competition,
Vivian Lu won 11 of 15 bouts and will enter Sunday in prime contention for a semifinal berth, sitting in fifth place. Fellow sabreist

Katina Proestakis Ortiz went 7-8 on Saturday, good for 14

th place;
Shirley Guo won four bouts and will enter Sunday in 20
th place.
Following the fourth and fifth rounds tomorrow, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with the winners advancing to determine each weapon's national champion, and the non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
