Penn Last Time Out
Penn gave #23 South Carolina three straight battles last weekend, limiting a Gamecocks offense that came in averaging 16 runs per game to just 14 runs total over the three-game series, while dropping two games by a single run. After a 7-4 loss on Friday, Zaffiro and
David Shoemaker combined to strike out 12 Carolina batters on Saturday, yielding just three hits in eight innings of work in a 1-0 loss. On Sunday, strong showings at the plate from
Cole McGonigal,
Nate Polo,
Jarrett Pokrovsky, and
Davis Baker helped give Penn a lead in the sixth, then again in the eighth, before the host Gamecocks rallied for the 6-5 win.
