MADISON, Wis. – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team fell 6-1 to #54 Wisconsin in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.
The #53 Quakers dropped the doubles point with the Badgers winning at No. 2 and No. 3. The No. 1 match featuring the #5 (
Edoardo Graziani/
Kevin Zhu) and #36 (Gabriel Huber/Michael Minasyan) teams in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) doubles rankings was halted.
Singles action was close from No. 1 through No. 6, with three matches going three sets and two other matches needing first-set tiebreakers before each ended 7-5 in the second set. Wisconsin won at No. 6 and No. 4 for a 3-0 lead. Zhu followed with a straight-set win over former Quaker
Jason Hildebrandt, pulling Penn to within 3-1. Zhu improved to 6-3 this Spring with his win.
That was as close as Penn came, however, as the Badgers closed out the match with a trio of three-set singles wins.
