PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team swept the Naval Academy Friday afternoon, 7-0, from the Hecht Tennis Center.
The Penn men took all three doubles matches convincingly, including a 6-0 win at No. 2 from the freshmen team of
Manfredi Graziani and
Kian Vakili. The No. 1 team of
Edoardo Graziani and
Zachery Lim and the No. 3 team of
Aditya Gupta and
Harsh Parikh each won 6-3.
In singles play, the younger Graziani double-bageled his opponent at No. 4, ending his day without dropping a single game. Gupta and Parikh followed with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3, dropping just three games between them, to officially clinch the match for the Quakers.
Vakili and Lim, both playing singles for the first time this Spring, won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
In the final match of the day, the elder Graziani dropped the opening set but, as he did against #40 Matisse Bobichon of VCU last Sunday, the #48-ranked player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings stormed back with a 6-4 second-set win, then came out the victor in a close third-set tiebreaker to finish off the sweep for Penn.
