PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team swept William & Mary Sunday afternoon, 7-0, from the Hecht Tennis Center, highlighted by four straight-set wins in singles play..
Harsh Parikh and
Kevin Zhu posted a dominant 6-0 win in the first doubles match of the day to go final. After William and Mary leveled things with a win at No. 3, Mandredi Graziani and
Aditya Gupta picked up a tiebreak victory, earning the early point for the Red and Blue.
Gupta rode the doubles momentum into his singles match, giving Penn a 2-0 lead with a commanding straight-set win, dropping a single game across the two sets.
Harsh Parikh followed Gupta's win with a straight-set victory of his own, dropping just two games in his match.
Needing one more victory to clinch the match, (Manfredi) Graziani did just that, claiming the team's third straight-set win of the day.
Baylor Sai later made it four straight-set wins and 5-0 Penn.
After winning the first set of his match 6-1, then dropping the second 4-6, Zhu closed out his match at No. 1 in style, taking it 6-0.
The final match of the day came down to a 10-point super tiebreaker after Vakili split the first two sets of his match 6-3, 3-6. Vakili took the tiebreaker 10-6, closing out the sweep for the Quakers, who have not dropped a point in two home matches this season.
