PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's squash team advanced to the Kurtz Cup Final at the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 win over Stanford.
For the second time this season against the Cardinal, the bottom half of the lineup provided the difference, going 5-0, as they did back on November 19.
Emma Carter opened the day with a 3-0, 14-minute win. After Stanford leveled the match,
Penelope Oh dropped just five points in a 3-0, 11-minute win and
Ashley Manning picked up a 3-1 win, putting Penn up 3-1 in the match.
After Stanford closed to 3-2,
Grace Lavin gave Penn back a two-match cushion and
Eujung Park clinched the match for the Quakers with a four-game win.
Natasha Pensler tacked on another win for the Red and Blue for their final point of the day.
"The girls played well today," said assistant coach Stuart Crawford. "The bottom of the lineup were solid and handled the pressure well. They kept their composure through the big moments, and as a result, we improved on the 5-4 match from the regular season. We're looking forward to the final tomorrow."
Penn will play Tufts or Dartmouth at 11:30 tomorrow morning for the Kurtz Cup.
Order of finish: 9, 1, 8, 4, 2, 7, 6, 5, 3
