#5 Women's Squash Falls to Top-Seeded Trinity in CSA Semifinal

PHILADELPHIA— The fifth-seeded University of Pennsylvania women's squash team fell to top-seeded Trinity in the semifinal round of the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships Saturday at the Arlen Specter Squash Center, 9-0.

The Bantams move on to the CSA final tomorrow morning against second-seeded Harvard, which was an 8-1 winner over third-seeded Princeton in Saturday's other semifinal.

How It Happened
In the first wave of Saturday's matches, Hailey Wong—who was moved up a spot in the lineup after Jana Dweek came down with a last-minute injury—battled Janna Ashmawy at the No. 7 spot on the ladder, the first two games needing extra points, before she fell in three. One spot ahead of her, at No. 6, Allie Stoddard was beaten in three. At No. 2, Franka Vidovic was able to stave off a loss for a set after falling behind 2-0, but Jana Safy closed it out in four.

Natasha Pensler was able to split her first two games at No. 9, winning the second 11-8, but Trinity's Varvara Esina took the third and fourth games for a four-set win. Malak Taha took a 2-0 lead at No. 5, winning both games in extra points, before Trinity's Kara Lincou roared back to win the next three and clinch the match for the Bantams in a match that took nearly an hour. At No. 1, Malak Khafagy's match with Malak Ashraf Kamal also went nearly an hour, the pair splitting the first four games before the Bantam No. 1 pulled out the five-set win with an 11-7 victory in Game 5.

Yoshna Singh won her first game on Saturday but fell in the next three at No. 8, while Savannah Ingledew was swept at No. 4. The day ended with Sohaila Ismail winning her first game but ultimately falling in four at No. 3.
