PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League has announced its weekly awards in men's basketball, and for the second straight week University of Pennsylvania freshman guard
Sam Brown was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Brown scored 14 points in Penn's 77-73 overtime win at MAAC preseason favorite Rider on Saturday. The freshman was a scintillating 4-of-7 from three-point line in scoring 12 first-half points. He also recorded eight rebounds, a season/career high, and added an assist and a blocked shot.
Brown missed Penn's first four games to injury but has started the last seven and is averaging 12.0 points per game (14.3 ppg across the last four). The freshman is shooting 46.6 percent from beyond the arc (27-58) and has 34 rebounds, 18 assists (2.00 assist/turnover ratio) and five steals.
Penn is off until Saturday, when the Quakers continue a stretch of three road games at No. 3 Houston. The Quakers and Cougars are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. in the Lone Star State (7 p.m. EDT).
