PHILADELPHIA – The No. 30 University of Pennsylvania wrestling team is gaining attention in the polls, as eight grapplers have been ranked in the top 33 of their weight classes by FloWrestling and Intermat.
After strong performances at the PRTC Keystone Classic last Sunday, Max Gallagher (125), Michael Colaiocco (133), CJ Composto (141), Kelly Dunnigan (149), Jude Swisher (157), Nick Incontrera (174), Maximus Hale (184), and Martin Cosgrove (197) landed spots in the national rankings.
Cosgrove, Dunnigan, and Gallagher are new to the polls this week after putting on shows at Keystone. No. 18 freshman Gallagher won the 125 pounds title, taking down the No. 20 ranked grappler in the country by decision, 4-1. No. 26 freshman Cosgrove and No. 24 sophomore Dunnigan both took the third-place bouts in their respective weight classes.
Colaiocco, Composto, Hale, Incontrera, and Swisher held their spots in the rankings as they all made deep runs into their weight class brackets. No. 13 Composto won the 141 pounds title by decision, 4-2, over Indianna's Fongaro, while No. 10 Incontrera took the 174 title from a 16-3 win by major decision over Jasiah Queen (Drexel). No. 9 Colaiocco, No. 32 Hale, and No. 33 Swisher grabbed third-place bouts in their weight classes to round out the Quakers in this week's rankings.
The Red and Bue hit the mats again on Dec. 1, when Iowa comes to The Palestra to open Penn's dual meet slate.
