Red & Blue Career Network - Mentorship Program

The Red & Blue Career Network's Mentorship Program is an innovative program that matches undergraduate Penn student-athletes with former Penn student-athlete alumni in a mentor/mentee relationship. This relationship provides student-athletes with networking opportunities and insight into career possibilities and the job procurement process and acts as a sounding board for additional life decisions. For mentors, it is an opportunity to stay involved with Penn Athletics and establish a relationship with current student-athletes that share a similar Penn experience.

The mission of the Mentorship Program is:

  • Enable athletes to succeed in life after graduation (jobs, life skills, etc.)
  • Increase alumni involvement with their sport after graduation
  • Strengthen recruiting

The Center for Student-Athlete Success uses the following strategy to match current student-athletes with future mentors:

  1. Identify the atudent-athlete’s interests as they think about her career after graduation
  2. Match the athlete with a Penn alum who works in that field of interest, to collaborate throughout the school year

The CSAS staff work with all varsity coaches, sport administrators, and the Penn Champions Club to ensure the efficiency and success of the mentor program.

Student-athletes involved in the Student-Athlete Mentor Program experienced the following benefits:

  • Opportunity to learn from first-hand experience and career journeys of former Penn student-athletes
  • Ehanced access to prospective internship opportunities
  • Increased likelihood of receiving a job offer before or shortly following graduation
