PHILADELPHIA – Head coach of the University of Pennsylvania wrestling team
Matt Valenti announced the captains for the 2025-26 season on Tuesday afternoon.
Kelly Dunnigan,
Sean Seefeldt, and
Jude Swisher will serve as captains for the upcoming year.
"Our captains this year were selected not just for what they have accomplished on the mat, but how they have carried themselves along the way - consistent, accountable, and committed to building something bigger than themselves," said Valenti.
Senior Dunnigan posted an 8-5 overall record last year, starting and winning the dual at 149 against Sacred Heart's Dakota Asuncion by tech fall, 23-6. "Being named captain for Penn wrestling is an honor," exclaimed Dunnigan. "This program has pushed me, challenged me, and helped me grow on and off the mat. I've learned what it means to show up every day, to lead by example, and to keep going when things get tough. My goal is simple: to leave this program better than when I came in."
Junior Seefeldt is back on the mats after missing last season. During the 2023-24 campaign, Seefeldt went 10-8, highlighted by an eighth-place finish at the F&M Open, topping Lock Haven's Billy Talmadge (2-2), Princeton's Cody Tavoso (6-5), Navy's Kaeman Smith (4-1), and Hofstra's Noah Tapia. "It's a blessing to be named captain," said Seefeldt. "This program is special, and this opportunity is special to me. I'm excited to keep building and leading with this group."
Junior Swisher is coming off a stellar sophomore season, going 26-9 overall, with a 10-4 dual record. Swisher placed second at 149 at the inaugural Ivy League Championships, qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships, beating SDSU's #19 Cober Siebrecht (1:56), Harvard's #29 Harrington (19-4), and Northern Iowa's #6 Ryder Downey (4-2), while also earning Second Team All-Ivy. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve this team," said Swisher. "The Build is growing stronger day by day!"
Dunnigan, Seefeldt, Swisher, and the rest of the Quakers open the 2025-26 season on Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic.
